Impact Plans

The Impact Plan is the core strategic document of the impact strategy process.  Created in collaboration with an activist or organization, each impact plan clearly and concisely describes how the project will achieve its desired social change outcome. 

Centered on an objective and theory of change, Impact Plans can also include audience personas, distribution plans, audience journeys, media outreach templates, media outreach plans, and other strategic elements, as requested by the client.

Intimate Partner Surveillance

This Impact Plan provides a media strategy for the advocacy video project Coffee + Crypto. Created by Addie Wagenknecht of Deep Lab, the project uses make-up tutorial tropes to inform women about how to protect themselves from surveillance by abusive romantic partners. 

Funded by the Mozilla Foundation through the generous support of the Open Society Foundation and under the auspices of Harmony Labs, this plan provided Addie with a strategy for using her videos to show women in abusive relationships privacy protection methods relevant to their lives and contexts. It is shared here with the consent of its creator.
 

 

Digital Literacy

This Impact Plan provides a media strategy for A Web Packet's Journey, an online game created by Nick Briz, Paul Briz and Ramon Branger of the digital agency Branger_Briz

Funded by the Mozilla Foundation through the generous support of the Open Society Foundation and under the auspices of Harmony Labs, this plan provided Branger_Briz with a strategy for using their game to inform youth and adult netizens about the ecology of the internet so they can be active and informed in protecting it. It is shared here with the consent of its creators.

 

Financial Data Privacy

This Impact Plan provides a media strategy for Public by Default, a web-based project by Hang Do Thi Duc that uses public activity feed of the Venmo payment app to encourage people to protect their own app-based data. 

Funded by the Mozilla Foundation through the generous support of the Open Society Foundation and under the auspices of Harmony Labs,this plan provided Hang with methods of increasing the audience of her project and measuring its impact. It is shared here with the consent of its creators.

 

Urban Surveillance

This Impact Plan provides a media strategy for Delirium City, a web-based “digital cartography” by Juliana Soto Narváez designed to inform young Latina women about the surveillance occurring on their personal devices.  The project allows users to navigate a virtual city in which they encounter descriptions of surveillance of their daily lives.

Funded by the Mozilla Foundation through the generous support of the Open Society Foundation and under the auspices of Harmony Labs, this plan provided Juliana with a method of iteratively testing the design of Delirium City with her audience to increase its persuasive effect. For Virtual Reality

This guide to the strategic use of virtual reality (VR) for social impact centers on the case study of VR Action Lab, a six-month project in which three filmmakers developed VR experiences to test the tool’s effect on one social problem: teen bullying. 

This guide was under the auspices of Harmony Labs and in partnership with Google VR's Daydream Impact program.

This quick-start guide to using video for social change.  It has has sections on strategy, impact measurement, and theory of change, as well as practical tips on project management, distribution, budgeting, and developing narrative.

It was funded by the Bertha Foundation under the auspices of Purple States, a production company focused on social change filmmaking.
